The Palmetto Cluster

The Palmetto cluster is Clemson University's primary high-performance computing (HPC) resource. It is heavily utilized by researchers, students, faculty, and staff from a very broad range of disciplines. External users from other universities, government agencies, and from Clemson's private-sector partners also play significant roles in supporting and using this rapidly growing resource.


Benchmarked operating at over 96 TF/s (maximal LINPACK for 13,616 cores).
Connected to Internet2's 100 GbE (gigabit Ethernet) Advanced Layer 2 Service
Ranked #15 among academic research clusters in the Nov 2012 Top500 list.
Over 1,800 compute nodes, 17,000 x86_64 cores, with 24 nVidia Tesla GPUs (and still growing).
12 to 64 GB RAM per node, with 512 GB and 2 TB shared-memory systems available.
Infiniband and Myrinet network fabrics.
218 TB OrangeFS "scratch" storage space.
